I need this for a NMSU Engineering class for sustainable green architecture that involves working with LEED certification. Though it isn't "the whole enchilada" for LEED, it gives enough information to get you started understanding it, and help you decide if you want to go further with it.

This book held a lot of basic information, but clearly isn't a prep for LEED certification. I found the book to be greatly repetitive, but it does show the principles of the green building philosophy.

A real paradigm-buster

Intrigued by Velikovsky's claim that Saturn was once the pre-eminent planetary god, David Talbott resolved to examine its mythical character. "I wanted to know," he wrote, "if ancient sources had a coherent story to tell about the planet . . . I had no inkling of the spectacular tale hidden in the chronicles."

In this startling re-interpretation of age-old symbolism Talbott argues that the "Great God" or "Universal Monarch" of the ancients was not the sun, but Saturn, which once hung ominously close to the earth, and visually dominated the heavens.

Talbott's close textual and symbolic analysis reveals the fundamental themes of Saturn imagery and proves that all of them--including the "cosmic ship", the "island at the top of the world", the "eye of heaven" and "the revolving temple"--were based on celestial observations in the northern sky. In addition he shows how such diverse symbols as the Cross, "sun"-wheels, holy mountains, crowns of royalty and sacred pillars grew out of ancient Saturn worship. Talbott contends that Saturn's appearance at the time, radically different from today, inspired man's leap into civilization, since many aspects of early civilization can be seen as conscious efforts to re-enact or commemorate Saturn's organization of his "celestial" kingdom.

A fascinating look at ancient history and cosmology, The Saturn Myth is a provocative book that might well change the way you think about man's history and the history of the universe.

foundations for a new comprehensive religious theory

Talbott has laid the cornerstone for a revolutionary and brilliant approach towards explaining mythology and ritual from a historical point of view. His work is clear and convincing, though several details cannot be maintained. Unlike Velikovsky's he works his ideas out in detail and opens the way for multitudes of new ideas. This book might even exceed Velikovsky's work in importance as it does certainly so in scope.

Origins of religion convincingly explained

This is not a quick read nor particularly well-written but it is a well-documented and an immensely powerful argument for the early gods of pre-history being cosmic entities that were in fact the planets. The world mountain, the cosmic tree and other mythological aspects are explained in scientific terms. Is Talbott correct? I am fairly sure he's on to something important. I know I can never view traditional astronomy or even the present concept of religion in the same light after spending time with this book. Too bad it's out of print but my library got me a copy.

Does It Meet Your Needs?

This book has good pricing and identification information as well as good stamp photos accurately showing their color. In short it must be appreciated for what it is. If you are expecting it to be Scott's US Specialized it is not and you should buy that book either instead of or in addition to. It may not be a bad idea to look through both books to determine what meets your needs before ordering. Frankly, I own them both and don't regret it.

A Good Alternative Pricing Guide

This is a great book! I'm not sure that the pricing is accurate, but the illustrations are larger than my Scott catalogs. I purchased this primarily for US stamps, which by far is in the majority for this catalog's content. The large format and illustrations are nearly coffee table book quality. The cost is reasonable for a book like this. I'm glad I purchased it.

During the Cold War, scholars focused obsessively on the challenges of the US-Soviet conflict, paying little theoretical heed to the role of the Third World in international politics or the sources of its foreign policy behaviour. What attention the Third World did receive was within the context of the East/West struggle. As the hostilities of the Cold War began to fade, so apparently did the creative energy of IR theorists. Since then, in spite of major global change, no new theoretical changes have taken place - until now. International Relations Theory and the Third World addresses the lack of scholarship devoted to Third World policy behaviour by collecting the top analysts and showcasing them in this volume. The authors describe and examine the deficiencies of existing theory and present alternate explanations of Third World policy behaviour. Taken together, their essays demonstrate how exploring the Third World experience can broaden and enrich our understanding of how and why states interact in the international system.

This little pamphlet is worth far more than the asking price. It distills the essence of the writings of Teresa of Avila, with a little St. John of the Cross. Written in contemporary language, it shows the Carmelite practices clearly, and is compatible with Protestantism, too. Presents classic insights without the reader having to decode qhat ancient language means. Very helpful in learning to rest in the presence of God without a bunch of denominational nonsense.

That Father Sam Antony Morello is a great contemplative is clearly demonstrated in this short work. It is an outstanding introduction to the practice of lectio divina and its impact on the great Carmelite saint. People are sometimes confused by Teresa's Interior Castle and left wondering how does one achieve such a profound life of prayer. This book will tell you how.

Nice little gift set for someone with a tiny space or limited place to hang the small [6" x 6"] strand of five flags that are included. Also a smart guidebook for anyone who has other or bigger prayer flags and want to have extra information about history and use of these staples of the Tibetan Buddhist landscape. Includes a number of chants and mantras as well as practical information on these instruments of devotion and prayer. The packaging of the flags onto the book binding makes it a little awkward to shelve once the flags are removed & hung. Be sure to note that Prof. Thurman wrote ONLY the intro and not the text which contains lots of quotes from prominent Buddhist sages and scholars.
